About International Forum for Aceh (IFA)
On several occasions IFA has held seminars and conferences that have encouraged many parties to find peaceful solutions to the problems facing Aceh. In October 2001, IFA and the Center for Global Peace at The American University hosted a leadership meeting of 50 civil society representatives from Aceh at The American University in Washington DC. Participants attended workshops on principles of negotiation, guidelines for dialogue, and third-party consultation. They agreed that civil society should play a more vigorous role in the peace process, and they elected a Civil Society Task Force of 10 representatives, whose purpose was to work with other civil society representatives to raise public awareness about the peace process, to strengthen civil society, and to act as links between civil society and those directly involved in peace negotiations. IFA also promote to advocate women’s rights, culture, education, and economic development for Aceh. |
